Brandy Avondale

Ski Adventure, friends, crackling fireplace, cozy blankets, board games and lot of laughter. Add in the food and drinks that our Progressive Eats Blogger friends have brought to the party and you may never want to go back to the plains or wherever it is that non mountain people live. This month’s theme for the Progressive Eats dinner was “Weekend Ski Party” and since I live in Ski Country I thought it would be nice to have some decadent drink to get the party going.   I must mention though, that some people find it interesting that I …

Cranberry Martini

The purist will say that this Cranberry Martini isn’t a martini because it is made with vodka. Usually martinis are made with gin and vermouth. But then if James Bond drank a martini with a vodka, Gordon’s and Lillet, I can’t be that wrong!  Now I am not a Bond girl (though I do wish it sometimes), I think what’s good enough for Bond, James Bond is good enough for me. And just to keep the purist happy we do have a generous portion of gin in this martini. And made it as he would have wanted it –  Shaken, …

Cosmopolitan – Ina Fridays

Incredibly sexy! That’s how I see the Cosmo as. Does that image have anything to do with this drink being featured in episodes of “sex and the city”? May be! I am not confessing to watching the said show. Nope! I am not. What I AM confessing today is how much I love a well made Cosmo. As far as drinks go, there couldn’t be a simpler cocktail to mix. Cranberry juice, Cointreau, vodka and lime juice. Even I can do that. It’s gorgeous to look at and tastes familiar, so it is a crowd pleaser too. As with …

Boddingtail or The Boddingtons Beertail

It took me a while to catch up on the phenomenon called the Beertails. I love my ales in their pure form and the occasional cocktails. And when the Spice guy started developing his own Beertails, I had to give in. After all he usually mixes new drinks to pair with the food I cook. And the least I can do is to taste them. Right? Well that’s a very valid excuse to drink. Don’t you think? If you have ever enjoyed a michelada, a Mexican beer cocktail that has hot sauces and peppers and lime juice that give …

Hot Tanqueray Cider

There is a privacy about it which no other season gives you…. In spring, summer and fall people sort of have an open season on each other; only in the winter, in the country, can you have longer, quiet stretches when you can savor belonging to yourself. ~Ruth Stout

Watermelon Mojito – Ina Garten Friday

“Write drunk; edit sober.” ― said Ernest Hemingway, the man associated with the creation of Mojito. According to Hemingway & Bailey’s Bartending Guide, the mojito was invented at La Bodeguita del Medio in Havana, Cuba. At the La Floridita, one of the watering holes he used to frequent in Cuba , hangs Hemingway’s signed quote:  “My mojito in the Bodeguita del Medio and my daiquiri in the Floridita” So I took his advice and made this watermelon Mojito by Ina Garten. Drank it and then wrote the blog post. I have no idea where that blog post is. I know I …
